Now that the kids are back to school and we are back on a schedule, I am determined to make getting healthier a priority. I know that as a mom this can be a challenge. Trust me this year I have 3 kids in 3 different school with 3 different start and stop times. Seriously it is crazy hectic which leaves little to no time for me to do much. However, carving out time to focus on my health can be accomplished. It takes planning and determination but it is possible. Here are my top 3 tips that with help you reach your health goals including how the Walgreen’s Balance Rewards for healthy choices program rewards you for your healthy choices.
Top 3 Tips To Help You Reach Your Health Goals
1. Get More Sleep:
Yes I realize this may sounds like a novel idea but the truth is the less sleep you get the more likely you are to make bad choices. I know when I don’t get enough sleep I am grumpy, less motivated, and hungry. I will eat stuff I know I shouldn’t eat but I am so cranky and irritable I just don’t care. Just like your kids need their sleep so do you. Set yourself a bedtime and stick to it. You body will thank you for it I promise.
2. Take Your Vitamins:
I know this may sound like a no brainer but how many of you actually take vitamins??? I am sure a few of your may but the vast majority don’t. Do you know that OVER 1 BILLION people in the world suffer from an Iron deficiency?? Do you ever have
- shortness of breath
- coldness in your hands and feet
- pale skin
- chest pain
- fatigue (tiredness)?
Chances are you have Anemia due to low Iron. If you are a women who has very heavy menstrual bleeding and long periods this is also a sign of Iron deficiency. My family has a history of low iron and Anemia. Some of the other most common vitamin deficiencies are Vitamin D, Omega-3, Iodine, and Calcium. Having low levels of these vitamins can cause insomnia, tooth decay, depression, headaches, heart disease, and digestive problems just to name a few. I think we all have at least one of these symptoms but don’t don’t realize it is because we are vitamin deficient. Taking a daily vitamin will help reverse any vitamin deficiency you may have. I have to say that I recommend talking to your help care provider BEFORE you start taking any vitamin so make sure you are taking the one that is right for you!
3. Use the Balance Rewards for Healthy Choices App
I am sure most of you are aware of the Balance Rewards program at Walgreens. It’s where you get points for your purchases. Well, now you can also get points for the healthy choices that you make. You earn 20 points for each mile you walk, run or cycle; 20 points per logged weigh-in; 20 points per logged blood glucose or blood pressure reading; and 20 points for logging other healthy activities (like yoga or swimming). You can also earn 250 points for setting your first goal and 250 points for syncing a compatible fitness or health device/app.
Above is my Balance Rewards for healthy choices account. You can see that I have connected MyFitnessPal and RunKeeper. These are the 2 apps that I have on my Samsung Galaxy S5 that track my activity and exercise goals. If you have one of the fancy bracelet activity trackers like a Fitbit or Jawbone you can connect those too. The best part about connecting your apps or device is that the points show up automatically! The #BalanceRewards for Healthy Choices app is a great way to help you track your goals and record your progress.
